EDP-PLUS
Q) While running a batch of checks, the EDP-PLUS stops and displays a HELP CODE 2. You must then turn off the machine to restart the check run, what causes this?
A) In most cases the ink roll has dried up, and the impression knob in the back of the machine has been adjusted to compensate for this, putting an increased amount of pressure on the plates, causing the stepper drive motor to slow down. The built in diagnostics will indicate a HELP CODE 2 in the display, warning the operator that the machine needs attention.
In most cases simply replacing the ink roll, Hedman Part # 3P1991 Tri-color ink roll, and re- adjusting the ink roll, backing off the pressure, will allow the machine to resume normal operation eliminating a “HELP CODE 2.”
Q) My EDP-PLUS was moved from it’s original location and now on occasion my machine stops in the middle of a run and displays a HELP 23, it must be shut off and restarted to finish a check run, what would cause this?
A) In some instances the EDP-PLUS needs to be on a dedicated outlet, if there is other high power drain equipment plugged into the same outlet as the EDP-PLUS and the equipment is used while doing a check run, the line voltage will drop enough to cause the built in diagnostics of the EDP-PLUS to indicate a HELP 23. Avoid plugging other equipment into the same outlet. Some examples are: Laser printers, copiers, document shredders. This type of equipment causes line voltage drops and EDP-PLUS to display a help code 23.
Q) How Many plates does an EDP Plus use?
A) 2 plates.
Q) Help Codes on display?
A) Help codes on the display are self-explained.
Q) How to resolve help codes #1, #4, and #5
A) See below:
- Help #1 - form is too far up into the tractor blocking the sensor reload form
- Help #4 - top cover not locked. Close cover and remove key.
- Help #5 - forms not loaded in the tractor properly. Reload forms and restart.
All other help codes are local distributor related. Please call for service.
Q) I have ink on a painted area of my machine - how do I clean this off?

- Clean with lemon extract on a rag and wipe down
- Clean with WD-40 on a rag and wipe down, can also clean plate with WD-40
- Clean with 409 or any other common household cleaner on a rag and wipe down
- Clean with citrus cleaners on a rag and wipe down
Q) Fibers of paper dust are on my signature plates, how do I clean?
A) Clean with isopropyl alcohol on a rag and wipe down.
Q) Signature signs in the wrong area, higher or lower than intended on the forms
A) See following steps:
- Check that proper form selection was chosen for the form that is being run
- Verify that form is properly programmed for the length of the form from top to bottom
Q) How many imprints can my ink roll make?
A) Normally 150,000 imprints depending on area of engraving; this does not apply over long periods of time; running 25,000 imprints/year does not mean the ink roll will last 6 years due to natural degradation.
